We arrived at Seoyhun Middle School and we were greeted warmly. The first event on the agenda was the welcoming ceremony. Mrs Harvie got the ball rolling and then everyone else introduced themselves to the school. They were very excited to hear us attempt to speak Korean and cheered and clapped loudly. Mr Hurn made a big impression - the boys thought he had a six pack. He easily won the arm wrestle against the PE teacher and Mrs Harvie and Mrs Meek won against the Principal of the sister school. I won't go into details about my effort.
Our children were a big hit with the students in the school and feel that they are already making many new friends. All the students had a good first night and after meeting the home stay mums I can see why. The English teacher said that for some of the students in the school it was the first time they have ever spoken to a European child and it was seen as a huge privilege to host a child from New Zealand.
In the evening the home stay families hosted us all at a restaurant and the social interaction between the students was great to see, much laughter and swapping of stories.
Mrs Joneja would have been very proud of the students efforts in the cooking room today they made wonderful blueberry muffins. Each one took home six beautifully packaged muffins and we were also given a package each.
Enjoy the photos from today.
